Sara here! This shoot was extra awesome for us because Jennifer and Ryan are no strangers. Jennifer’s sister is married to Ryan’s brother, so they are family! We were really excited to hear of their engagement and even more excited when they asked us to shoot their engagement session. We had a lot of fun shooting their session.
Jennifer specified they did not want to shoot at the beach or in a meadow (not their style!) but they wanted something pretty and natural. We shot this session at a nature center in Long Beach. It’s one of those hidden finds that feels like it’s miles and miles away from the city. There are tons of beautiful trees, a lake, and lots of birds and turtles around. The weather was just about perfect as well. We finished up their session at a nearby park.
My favorites are the laying in the grass photos. The natural light was so gorgeous and perfect!
We love their engagement story as told by Ryan…
” Through most of the last year I have been growing out my hair and a few months before the proposal I started growing out my beard as well. When I decided upon how I was going to propose I let my hair and beard grow to the point where I looked like a mess. Since Jenn and I have been going out she has always cut my hair which provided extra shock. I got my hair and beard cut on my lunch break and I looked a little different.
That night we weren’t planning to see each other but I suggested that we should meet up late for appetizers at a restaurant close to my house. I choose a restaurant which was on the beach. I waited for her in the sand and because it was at night she didn’t notice what I looked like until she was very close to me. Before the shock of how different I looked wore off I pulled out the ring and got down on one knee to propose. I asked her to marry me.
Then she said yes!
And we still got some appetizers.”
Congrats to you two!
