Gay Dads & Their Sons | Kergan, Russ, Marcus, and Mason03/31/2012

Sara here! This family of  four welcomed us into their beautiful home in Orange County, which is where we photographed this session. The weather was just about perfect after being rained out for three Saturdays in a row!

Kergan and Russ are very easy going guys and they were a pleasure to work with. They claimed to be nervous in front of a camera, but I think otherwise. They were pretty natural! Marcus and Mason are hams and they had us cracking up through the session. They give each other a hard time, as brothers will do, but it’s pretty obvious in the photos how much they love each other, and their dads. We really enjoyed our time with this family.

A little about Kergan and Russ:

Kergan is an amazing writer and Russ is a super talented creative director (yes, that made us a tad nervous!) and they are both amazing fathers.

Going into the session I already knew a bit about Kergan, and had the utmost respect for him. He was named one of the Human Rights Campaign’s Fathers of the Year  in 2011 (Russ proudly nominated him). His writings have appeared in the Huffington Post and numerous other magazines and journals. He also has a debut novel out, Songs for the New Depression. It is fantastic (I’m not just saying that. I’m currently reading it!).  He also has a background in screenwriting, directing, acting, and has worked for Aids Project, Los Angeles. His bio is pretty impressive. You can find out even more info about Kergan on his website at http://kerganedwards-stout.com/

I asked Kergan to write a little something about his family. “Trying to define family is like trying to define wind.  We all know what it is, but both power and subtleties are lost in attempting to harness it.  In our family, four very different souls came together by choice, in unexpected and miraculous ways, combining to create something both powerful and subtle.  And just the way wind can course through you, filling you inside, so too does our family do that for us.  United, we are filled…” Kergan Edwards-Stout
